Woman struck by bullet fragments in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – Police in the City of Newburgh are investigating several shots fired in the area of 197 South Street at around 3:40 a.m. Saturday and the discovery about 50 minutes later of a woman suffering from a hand injury with evidence of bullet fragments.

Police received a Shot Spotter notification of the gunfire and when they arrived at the scene, a large crowd was dispersing. Officers received limited information about the incident and no scene was discovered.

At about 4:30, a woman walked into the emergency room at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital with a hand injury and police learned she had been in the area of North Miller and South streets during the time the shots were fired.

The incident is being investigated by the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force.
