Drunk driver pleads guilty to vehicular assault

KINGSTON – A Saugerties man pled guilty in Ulster County Court on Friday to aggravated vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated in a Sunday morning, January 6 accident on Route 32 in the Town of Saugerties.

John Kuhn, 35, admitted to driving drunk and speeding when he crossed a double yellow line in attempt to pass another vehicle, but took evasive action to avoid a head-on crash with an oncoming car. He lost control and crashed into a tree causing his car to roll several times.

Two back seat passengers were ejected and seriously injured. A front seat passenger sustained minor injuries.  Kuhn was removed from the vehicle by a passerby before police arrived. He sustained facial lacerations but was otherwise uninjured.

Kuhn is scheduled to be sentenced by County Court Judge Donald Williams in July.
