Sullivan County continues to top state with new jobs

ALBANY – Sullivan County remains on top statewide with new job creation, the state labor department reported Thursday.

For the 12 months ending in April, new jobs rose by 7.4 percent in Sullivan and that can be attributed to the casino, new waterpark, upscale spa and other development.

New jobs grew by 2.9 percent in Ulster County, by 2.1 percent in the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division and by 1.8 percent in Columbia County.

Jobs rose by 1.0 percent in Greene County and by 0.6 percent in the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area.

New jobs grew by 9,000, or 1.1 percent, to 811,400 across the Hudson Valley.

Gains were largest in education and health services (+5,400), leisure and hospitality (+2,800), professional and business services (+1,700), natural resources, mining and construction (+1,300), and financial activities (+700). Losses were mostly centered in trade, transportation and utilities (-2,500).
