Sullivan County deputy saves choking man

Sheriff Schiff, left, commends Robbins

MONTICELLO – A Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputy is credited with saving a choking man in a restaurant at Resorts World Catskills.

Deputies Matthew Robbins and Justin McFadden were having a meal at the 24/7 Diner on the grounds of the resort on Monday, April 29 when a male patron began to choke on food. While McFadden alerted medical personnel, Robbins performed the Heimlich maneuver on the man, who had slumped over and passed out.

The deputy dislodged the piece of food and the man began to breathe again. The victim was examined by emergency medical personnel and refused further medical aid.

Sheriff Michael Schiff commended the deputies for their quick action.

Deputy Robbins just graduated from the police academy on March 15 and Deputy McFadden is his field training officer.
