Structural deficiencies force closure of Newburgh’s Lake Drive bridge

NEWBURGH – Worsening structural deficiencies have forced the closure of the bridge on Lake Drive over the Quassaick Creek in the City of Newburgh.

The bridge was shut down on Wednesday with Lake Drive closed to all vehicular traffic at the northern intersection of Lake Drive and Lake Street (Route 32).

Local traffic will be permitted to access the Lake Street Apartments through the southern intersection of Lake Drive and Lake Street and through Cerone Place.

The city will replace the deficient bridge originally constructed in the 1970s. Work on a replacement bridge is expected to start this fall and extend through 2020.
